Report on the Video titled 'Wikis In Plain English'

The 2nd May, 2007 video by Commoncraft entitled ‘Wikis in Plain English’ teacher explains about the Wiki which enable members for recording editing and saving documents on one platform apart from location. Co-ordination is the key that more or less works fine here helping friends smoothing their functions. (Here managing a trip)

Video starts with cartoons planning for a trip and in order to plan the same smoothly they begins mailing each other but finds themselves in chaos as mails need to be sent to individually lacking them things to be shared appropriately. There, the teacher introduces about the wiki where on the same page they can do whatever they want do. With ‘Edit’ and ‘Save’ buttons the teachers explains how a page flips through normal page to webpage making writing easy and accessible to everyone. An example has also been shown how friends manage the list of ‘We have’ and ‘We need’ and the same list edited and saved by fiends respectively adding and eliminating things useful for the trip. In addition to it, wiki also helps in finding the location for the trip.

Activity

I think academic writing is the most appropriate activity on Wiki as it records data automatically and on the top of it, Wiki also allows an opportunity to compare the data indicating mistakes.

I will ask students to create the list of things in order to celebrate annual day in our college. Class representative will be asked to make a list of events, their order, the suggestions to be given for food, the sitting arrangement, duties assigned to them etc.,  A separate page will be created on which their suggestion will be taken with feedback. Same applies to the remaining staff too. So the event will be entirely managed smoothly by students.

  2. You have used nice vocabulary, yet you have not explained how would you use Wikis in your classroom. You forgot to mention the LINK option which is one of the important feature of Wikis. In addition, you also forgot to mention the sites through which Wikis can be accessed. Still it is a coherent and clear to interpret how important Wikis is..!
